Spain defeat Argentina to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Spain are world champions once again.

La Roja defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at New York New Jersey Stadium, claiming their second world title after their first triumph in 2010.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Ferran Torres delivered the decisive moment in the 106th minute. Nico Williams headed Pedro Porro’s cross back into the area, allowing Torres to fire past Emiliano Martínez and put Spain ahead.

Argentina had been reduced to ten men late in regulation following Enzo Fernández’s second yellow card, while Spain controlled much of the contest and prevented the reigning champions from registering a shot during the opening 90 minutes.

The victory completes another remarkable chapter for a Spanish generation featuring Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Nico Williams and Rodri, with Luis de la Fuente’s side adding the World Cup to their UEFA Euro 2024 title.

Spain leave North America with a second star above their crest, becoming the first champions of the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup.
