Carlos Alcaraz return at the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz made a successful return to competition at the US Open, defeating Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Spaniard had not played an official singles match for 139 days after suffering a right wrist injury in April. The setback forced him to miss both Roland-Garros and Wimbledon before making his comeback in New York.
Despite some understandable rust, Alcaraz needed two hours and 22 minutes to secure the victory and reported no pain in his wrist after the match. The seven-time Grand Slam champion returned to Flushing Meadows as the defending champion after winning the tournament in 2025.
A positive first step for Alcaraz as he returned to the biggest stage after more than four months away from competition.
