Mondo Duplantis defies gravity with world record in Paris

Armand “Mondo” Duplantis delivered one of the most unforgettable moments of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, soaring to a new pole vault world record of 6.25 meters and securing his second consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Under the lights of a packed Stade de France, the Swedish superstar turned an already dominant performance into a historic spectacle. After securing gold with a clearance of 6.00 meters, Duplantis raised the bar to 6.10 meters, setting a new Olympic record on his first attempt.

But the 24-year-old was far from finished.

With the entire stadium watching, Duplantis attempted 6.25 meters, one centimeter higher than his previous world record. After two unsuccessful attempts, he cleared the bar on his third and final jump, sending the crowd into an eruption of celebration.

The achievement marked the ninth world record of his career and made him the first man since Bob Richards in 1956 to successfully defend an Olympic pole vault title.

American Sam Kendricks claimed silver with 5.95 meters, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis secured bronze at 5.90 meters.

As Duplantis celebrated with his loved ones before taking a victory lap draped in the Swedish flag, the moment became an instant Olympic classic.

In Paris, Mondo Duplantis didn't just win another gold medal. He reminded the world that even the limits of human achievement are made to be broken.
